Faafu Atoll is composed of 23 islands with a population of about 4,600 inhabitants. According to 2006 census data (more recent data are still under revision), Magoodhoo’s population amounts to 683 residents distributed on a limited surface (approximately 900 meters for 400 meters) and mostly concentrated in the island village. While a consistent part of the male residents are employed in activities such as fishing outside the island even for long periods, the female inhabitants represent the majority of the resident population in Magoodhoo. Beside housework, women are involved in a series of activities for their families and community: agricultural community planning, management of public spaces, preschool activities, organization of some public events, conservation and repairing of fishing nets,  and the productions of handcrafts to be sold in the resorts (palm leaves are used to make roof mats).
